The First Year (in)Experience
In 1996, CLEA’s second conference, hosted at the North Carolina School of the Arts, addressed concerns related to our students’ first year--we entitled that conference The First Year Experience.
Our eighth conference, a dozen years later, returns to the same cluster of concerns. Knowing better, we aptly re-title this conference to reflect insights gained from our ongoing conversations through the years (and the decades!). We will also benefit from conversation with colleagues who teach our students in their secondary years--so that we can focus, especially, on the senior year of high school as we consider the first year of college.
Schools should assemble their conference teams and make plans for travel and accommodations. Here are important details to help:
DATES:
Conference: Thursday, April 9 - Saturday, April 11
Check out our ideas -- HERE’S THE CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
THINGS TO CONSIDER AS YOU PLAN:
>>We’ll meet for an informal dinner at a local spot on Wednesday evening.)
>>Our first session will begin at 9:15 AM on Thursday morning.
>>The final session will conclude around 2:00 PM on Saturday.
>>The Twin Cities offers a sweep of diversions for many of us who choose to stay over Saturday evening. (We’ll post a sampling here soon.)
ACCOMMODATIONS:
As in the past, we expect that most will arrive on Wednesday (4/8), and many will leave on Sunday (4/12). We have contracted with the Embassy Suites hotel in downtown St. Paul.
SEE THIS PAGE for helpful details to make your reservations.
The “Embassy Suites” link above includes information on the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and related transportation info to and from, etc., as well as other info. on the Twin Cities region. We’ll have further links in this regard here in coming weeks.
